Art:

Colored Pencil Kiwi

Today's Snack: The kiwi fruit is a great source of Vitamins C and K. While it's high in natural sugar, it's very low in fat and sodium, which is great. It's also a good source of fiber, compared to many other snacks.

If you have an egg cup or a 3-ounce paper cup, here's a fun way to eat kiwi. Simply have an adult help you cut off a slice at the top, place the kiwi in the cup to hold it steady, drizzle a bit of honey on the top, and then use your spoon to dig out and eat the rest of the kiwi.

As they say in the kiwi's native New Zealand, it's great, Mate!

Supplies:

Kiwi fruit | knife and cutting board

Colored pencils, black inkpen | drawing paper

What's more colorful and fun to look at than fruit? The kiwi fruit is a great example of how everyday objects make great subjects for art. Take a moment to look up the kiwi's native New Zealand on a map or globe. Its striking green and black looks are exposed when the fruit is sliced open, showing the interesting pattern of seed placement. It's a challenging and fun object to draw.

Drawing really helps you build your concentration power. You have to look at the object you're drawing and transfer what it looks like to a piece of paper. This practice in concentrating and focusing helps you in all school subjects, and in life in general. So do some drawing practice with this beautiful fruit.

You can do this activity before you eat the kiwi for a snack, or eat one, draw another, and then eat it, too!

Simply use the great colored pencil drawing advice on this awesome website to make your kiwi picture look like the real thing:
