Mini-Grant #7: HORSEBACK RIDING EXPERIENCE

For 10 to 15 inner-city middle-school students to go to Triple M Stables south of Council Bluffs, Iowa, for a horseback riding clinic.

 

The grant includes transportation to and from the after-school setting and the stables, a healthy snack, and a one-hour riding lesson. The students will leave right after school, and return at the usual closing time of the afterschool.

 

Owner Lauren Heitmann will assemble enough horses and "hands" to give every student a safe and memorable riding experience. Beginning riding techniques, horse care, horse psychology, and an easy obstacle course will be included.

 

Every student MUST bring some kind of a helmet such as a bike helmet. Jeans and sturdy shoes are suggested.

 

After School Treats would like each student to write a report about the experience to send with a thank-you note to the instructor, so students will gain experience with both "riding" and "writing"!
